So I'm type 1 diagnosed over a year now ,currently on no insulin or medication.I thought I'd try ketogenic diet and to say my sugars have been good is an understatement!! no spike watsoever nothing over 6 for over a week now.I exercise alot and have lost about 4 pounds, currently weigh in at 11.3,not exercised for about a week prior looking to get back into tomorrow.so yeah haven t lost any of my muscle mass just alot of water and fat so yeah so far so good, looking to get back to about 11.8 so let the journey begin, and any advice is more than welcome, especially from those who like to workout and are on a lchf diet :) peace,

Hey, well done! Glad it is working for you. :)

Am just wondering if you might find the LC threads on the LADA section of the forum interesting, because being T1, you may find their dietary control, and insulin issues worth reading, before you get to the insulin part yourself.

I thrive in ketosis!!! Though only on insulin for 2.5 years I have eaten 20 g carbs or less a day for over 25 years. I think that held off the inevitable insulin that comes with LADA for many years.

Now T1 I can't eat carbs and get insulin there at the same time as my food no matter how hard I tried. So the perfect fit for me was going back to vlc. I apply the Bernstein principle of laws of small numbers. Low carb, low insulin, low spikes and rarely ever hypo. I love my healthy fats too!!!

Just a side, lchf or keto doesn't not mean high protein.

I know wat you mean but due to weights and exercise eat i gram every pound to build muscle which i also did before :)

As T1D I consume less that 20g CHO per day. I work out every other day and have no issues with lack of energy etc. In fact I feel so much stronger now than I ever did on carbs. I would regularly max out at about 25-30 push ups. A couple of weeks after going LCHF I surprised myself by getting to 40. That was a first for me. Fat is my fuel of choice now and I am loving it.
