Leading experts attend international diabetes summit in London

Leading diabetes experts from around the world have gathered in London for a major conference to share best practice and discuss new treatments for the condition. The International Diabetes Summit was organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes and took place in the House of Commons on Thursday 13 December. It was hosted by Keith Vaz, who is Chair of the APPG for Diabetes and MP for Leicester East. Mr Vaz, who has type 2 diabetes himself, has previously spoken about the spiralling type 2 diabetes rates and the standard of care for all people with the condition. The summit has been described as a "landmark event in Parliament's approach to raising awareness and sharing best practice of type 1 and type 2 diabetes". Sessions looked at innovation, prevention and how diabetes expertise can be adapted and used globally in a bid to ensure everyone with diabetes receives the best possible care. Steve Brine, Minister for Public Health, opened the day by giving a keynote speech on the UK's perspective of diabetes. There were also presentations from Professors Melanie Davies CBE and Kamlesh Khunti from Leicester, who spoke to attendees about their involvement in a worldwide campaign called Cities Changing Diabetes. Professor Khunti said: "Type 2 diabetes represents a significant challenge around the world and we’re hugely proud to have been asked to present at the International Diabetes Summit, sharing what we've learnt so far through the Leicester Changing Diabetes programme." Leicester became the first UK city in May to join the global initiative which was developed to help drive down type 2 diabetes numbers. Professor Davies gave details on how the team have been carrying out screening tests across the city and working in partnership with sports teams to promote activity in the area.

What's happened to the properly formatted news reports.... if you click continue reading I get a page with no text?

@DCUKMod is there no forum help person we can tag in when we see these probs.. I hate to disturb you with technical issues..

They’re probably the “experts” :D

But yes, personally I’m not overly optimistic that anything will change in my lifetime. It’s not like the real science isn’t already known, it’s just that it’s so far been impossible for it to break through the wall of money.

You're right I was just taking a screenshot of the empty screen and the text appeared as if by magic.. must have been a good 10 seconds though..

Thanks Boss!

May I be so bold as to suggest that the tech support side could have an @ forum name too? like @forumtechsupport or something like that which would allow them to be tagged into threads for problems? Just a thought... A generic one that then sends a notification to the e-mail address for an extra notification?
