Hi, I'm T2 and on Gliclazide which I have been for over 10 years now. When I was firstly diagnosed in 2002 I was given a diet sheet at my local clinic which I followed religiously. Despite this my BG levels remained high (10 - 12 over 7 years). I came across this forum and followed advice on the Low Carb section and almost immediately my levels began to fall. I cut out porridge for breakfast, totally cut out milk, reduced my carb intake to 50g per day and so on. My Gliclazide dosage started out at 80mg daily and increased steadily to 320mg daily. After starting the low carb diet within months my BG levels reduced to the upper 5's where they have remained ever since. Over the same period my Gliclazide dosage REDUCED from 320gm per day to 40gm. Of course we're all different so what has worked for me may or may not work for you but my golden rule is to maintain a low carb diet. If you try it then good luck. I do miss some foods such as rice, pasta, bread which I do not eat but I do have a 1/2 roast potato with roast Sunday dinner. I have definitely adjusted to the diet and although I do get cravings find the regime relatively easy. Whilst I don't have milk, I do have plenty of cream and enjoy cheese. To be honest my greatest sorrow is I can only have 1 can of ale before dinner whereas pre-diagnosis I had two!! All the best. Steve
