have now been put on Gliclazide, 320mg over 24 hr. period .Due to side-effects of metformin on digestive tract , fed up with diabetic nurses attitude ,BG now over 20.Having high blood pressure, water tablets, and trying to diet ,it does get you down. Surely I'm not the only one .Sorry for having a hissing fit !

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Have you tried the slow release version of Metformin. I suffered for months with the side effects but eventually my GP accepted the situation and switched me to Glucophage and my side effects disappeared within 24 hours. I too then had Gliclazide added to my medication but still me BGS levels weren't reducing.

I think at that stage I still thought of the medication was a bit like taking antibiotics for an infection. It was all quite depressing.

Then about 6 weeks ago I joined this forum and read the posts of so many others who had been through the journey before me.

I started to look at my diet in a totally different way thanks to all the friends on here. Out went the white bread, white rice, pizza, pasta, potatoes, fried foods, cakes, biscuits etc. carbs were cut down but not to levels I couldn't live with.

Result: my BGS levels halved, I lost a stone in weight and my blood pressure returned to normal levels. Still need to increase to exercise but now feel really motivated and in total control of my condition.
