Now that I am on a 5-2 diet my pre bed BG reading is around 6.5/7. When it was 10 I took 60 units of Levemir and in the morning I would be around 7. But now that I am lower going to bed I am not taking Levemir and my morning reading is 10. What level of Levemir should Iyake when I am 6.5 at bedtime? anyone help my GP is useless

No one on this forum can tell you how much you need to take. If your GP is useless complain to the practice manager.

We could advise you on what perhaps you should do and how to work out how much you need.

If you're not taking any levemir at the mo and it's rising I'd suggest you start by taking a small amount and gradually increase that until you find a balance that works for you - make sure you have some quick acting carbs and your meter by your bed and set an alarm for testing over night until you have a clearer picture.

In my practice NO ONE is interested in Diabetes - my own Cardiologist has argued with the GP to send me to a Diabetic Clinic but he refused - eventually I paid privately to get advice from a London Specialist. I was not after a precise level intake but more a comfort level of what others are doing after all that is the purpose of a forum to share experiences and knowledge.

The levemir is basal insulin and should hold you steady throughout the day/night.....

so if previously it was lowering you overnight it was too high of a dose.....

stopping taking it isn't normal either, as you will still need it.....

you don't adjust your dose of levemir up or down by a single blood sugar reading....in order to get your readings down you must use a quick acting bolus insulin...

In that case I suggest you change Doctors then!

A comfort level? I'm not comfortable stating a starting level, I don't think anyone on here would be. I'm trying to help by providing some advice, start at which ever number YOU feel comfortable with (you know your body better than anyone) and adjust accordingly - personally I'd err on the side of caution and give it 2-3nights before making another change unless it's obviously too much!

Why did you stop taking it?
