I take 23 units of levemir in the morning and was taking 15 before bed - the day time dose is perfect, keeps me steady all day. But the night time dose has been giving me all sorts of problems. I've been waking up around 6-7am each day without fail with a hypo so I've been slowly reducing my dose. I'm currently on 8 units and woke up with a hypo again today!

This has been going on for a few months now - my DSN has suggested reducing it to 12, then 10 but nothing is working! Has anyone else had the same problem?

If you are hypoing overnight, it sounds as though you are getting stacking on the Levemir. I don't know what your weight is, but have you done a fasted basal test recently to check out what is going on during the day? I wonder whether your basal is accounting for some of your meal requirements, so your day dose is higher than it needs to be.

Also, what time is your evening dose typically, and what are your bg levels before bed?

I've done lots of basal testing due to struggling with my levemir being too low in the day and my day time levemir is finally perfect - my weight is healthy for my height and I'm not over weight.

My evening dose is between 10pm-midnight, depending on when I get home from work. My levels are always between 6-10 before bed but they always manage to drop through the night.

Yeah have you tried not taking the night time one? How much does your blood sugar drop?

If I don't take it my sugar is sky high all night - can't win! Have an appointment in October so I will see if they will change my insulin at all

@Miss90, be sure to enquire about Tresiba when you attend your clinic appointment, this insulin has a 42 hour profile but you still inject it once a day, from reading members experiences of using this insulin the feedback is extremely good, @robert72 is one of them and I'm sure he'll share his views if you ask him.

Why do you split your dose in this way? I take 34 units once a day,but I'm aware my BG will creep up in the two hours before.
