I go to bed around 10/11pm and wake up between 5.30/8am depending on where I'm working, at the moment I take my injection about 10, I'm having different morning readings so I'm still testing and trying to adjust, Do most people inject just before bed? Or take it earlier?

Do you just take it just the once, levemir doesn't last much longer than 18 hours and needs to be split in most cases, meaning once in the morning and once at night.

My readings throughout the day are always good, right up until the evening as I'm active so my 3/4 novorapid jabs are enough to keep my sugars stable. If anything I need hardly any novorapid during the day as im burning off the carbs at work. My healthcare professional said levemir is only really needed in the morning to cope with high evening readings or if I would miss a meal during the day (no novorapid)

I have always taken mine at 10 PM also. Splitting the dose was mentioned when I was having issues with control, but carb counting course and fine tuning meal ratios sorted it without changing Levemir time.

I have high morning readings sometimes and I heard taking it a hour or 2 earlier can help? My sugars are also good due to meal times and the novo does its job throughout the day.

In order for me to combat the dawn phenomenon [unsuccessfully], I took mine before bed, a time which varied, and then the same time every morning......

This created an overlap in doses, and I had more working from the previous night, which did help most of the time...

this caused higher reading in the run up to bed time due to the morning Levemir running out, this was compensated with novo at dinner/supper

I would usually take my Levemir at 10pm, i go to bed around 10.30 or so. I take it again in the mornng at about 7.30. My night dose(7 units) is double the morning dose (3 units) as i am active during the day. I would take my breakfast around 9.30, this is becuase when i used to take the levemir and the Bolus (Humalog) close together in the morning i would go low about 2-3 hours after - I suppose it is all what works for teh individual person

I took mine at 10am and 10pm after one big dose wasn't working for me
I'm now on a pump though and not looked back once!

I don't think taking Levemir once a day is a good idea in general, due to its short duration of action. However if your HCP has advised it, fair enough. I'm sure there are special cases where 1/day is appropriate. But since you are having trouble with your blood sugars, maybe 1/day Levemir is not appropriate for you. Particularly if you are on a low dose, the duration of action will be even shorter. 18 hours action is really a best case, for a large dose. You might well only be getting 10-12 hours action out of your Levemir - ymmv, as we used to say.

Its less than 12 hours when im trying to get it right. (When I wake up) the rest of the day is fine, even the evening. So im testing twice in the night to see if my sugars go up or down.

My HCP was wrong, last 2 days I have tested 2 hours after dinner and then 60/90 mins later and my blood sugars rise again, tonight it was 8.2, now a hour later it's 9.9, so what would any of you recommend I take of levemir in the morning? Im currently taking around 28/30 units at night, still trying to get my morning sugars right. If it helps im 5 ft 10 and weigh just over 12 stone.

would try an extra unit of qa with meal and rework your ratios. Good reading at 2 hr, but duration of qa lasts 4~5 so could be falling short. If your base is right at all other times would try that before adjusting basals.

Its when I wake up and in the evening the are rising so I think its definitely down to the levimir now. Im fine during the day, but I think that's because of regular meals and being active along with the novo rapid

As said earlier you need to split-dose it, I'm sure your bg numbers will level out once you do so.

Do I literally split the 28 or dp I carry on with that at night and take a smaller amount during the day?

Split the 28 to start off with and work up from there, tbh I couldn't get any decent bg control when I went on levemir so I'm not the best person to advise, just know that levemir hardly ever lasts more than 18 hours.

What are you using now then? I was going to ask about different insulins but she wasnt letting me ask many questions. :/

A quick reply as I'm off to bed, I'm on a once daily dose of lantus, take it early evening around 6-7pm.
