Hi all,
I have recently been equipped with a freestyle libre and is providing massive benefit to me already.

I have been on split doses of levemir for about 10 years, 28u in the morning and 32u before bed and thanks to the Libre can now see that both doses are running out after around 11 hours.

My question is if I increase the dose will that increase the length of time the levemir is active for or will it simply lower my blood sugars further and still only be active for 11 hours? Any advice is greatly appreciated

My understanding is the duration of the insulin is fixed regardless of the dose. As you suggest, if you take more, you will just go lower for 11 hours.

Nobody knows for sure, everybody reacts slightly differently.

However, because it's such a tiny increase, it probably wouldn't shift the activity profile of the insulin much, and as Helen said, you'd just go lower for 11 hours. You could try splitting the levemir into three doses eight hours apart, and that would make sure your basal was covered.

For me, increasing from 30u to 50u delayed the insulin by about 25 mins, so a large increase was needed for a small time change - I don't think this is a good idea for you.
