I have found that injecting my Toujeo in the morning (33 units, which is 80% of my old Levemir of 42 units split 21 morning & night) works very well throughout the day. Indeed, I have to be a little careful about going too low, especially in the morning. However, by careful eating and using appropriate amounts of NovoRapid I can generally keep my BS around 5. I am usually around 6/7 at bedtime and have been waking up to my CGM alarm in the early hours having dropped below 4.5. Some fruit juice sorts this out but I am trying to sort this. I have been given no advice from any of my healthcare professionals, indeed the first I knew of the change was when my prescription changed so I was not allowed to choose which insulin to change to! I have had to do all my own research which was where I discovered that because Toujeo is 3x the strength of Levemir I should start on a dose with an 80% reduction. I am only two weeks into the switch and learning as I go. There are positives, Toujeo seems to work better and you only inject once a day. The plunger on the pen is much easier to push in, which is really helpful when injecting in my bottom! Because of my being rather lower than normal in the morning, I may reduce the dose to 30 units and/or add some carbs to my breakfast. Having a CGM makes such a difference, I would’ve hated to have made the switch while having only a fingerprick device.
