Hi guys,
does anyone know how long it takes for Levemir to wear off? My need of Novorapid to meals is greater in the evening than during morning/early day. Previously I've ascribed the effect to cortisone but am now on such a low dose that it doesn't seem likely. I take my Levemir once a day at bedtime, could it be that it doesn't last me 24h?
Also wondering a bit about at what time it kicks in and if and when it peaks - am trying to figure out at which hours to measure bs-levels in order to find the optimal basal dose.
Would appreciate some help, thanks in advance!

Hi, I changed to Levemir two years ago as recommended by my consultant. I take 12 units each twice a day. This seems to cover me for 23-24 hrs. It might be worth you contacting your consultant to see whether you'd be better to take it twice a day instead of once as if your BM's are rising at a particular time of day this is probably indicating its run inning out. Hope this has been helpful. For my background I'm a type I diabetic of 38 yrs. I also take novo rapid. Regards Debbie

Hi Debbie,
definitely worth looking into. Thx for tip!
I'm also a type1 on NovoRapid. Still honeymooning after more than 2 years so my doses are really low and still decreasing - maybe a small dose isn't effective for as long as a higher one? My morning tests are good so splitting it might be the key.
Thanks again :)

I found a single dose did not last and now take 20 first thing in the morning and 10 units before bed, i take a fast action insulin before i eat or when bgs are high as well. good luck
