Does anyone know if i inject my levemir at approx. 8am do i have to inject exactly at 8pm?i have been on levemir for about 3 years after changing from lantus but dont really know if i leave it a bit later at night say for instance i inject at 8am in morning and then 9pm at evening?Diabetes doctor at hospital keeps telling me different things and diabetes nurse in doctors doesnt know much anyway.also when i first went on levemir i thought you had to inject befor bed but this is impossible anyway because i may go out in the evening and still inject levemir about 8pm.I have had type 1 diabetes for 42 years and thought i knew everything .Also i was told to inject levemir into my thighs and my novorapid into my stomach which i do but doctor at hospital said soon i will have to find other places to inject such as my buttocks which i find impossible to reach.I am worried in another 10 or so years i will have nowhere left to inject.is there anyone else having these problerms? :? :? :?

Hi :) i take it you split your levemir dose? personally i try to inject aat the same time every night +/- an hour so i think you'll be fine, but hopefully someone will correct me if its different for split doses :) i have one daily dose and always say i 'inject before bed', which is normally around 11, but obviously this isn't really true - sometimes i work the night shift so that would really mess things up! The only thing the doctor has ever said to me in terms of times is to inject before bed so i see your point!

Try injecting levemir into just one thigh - making sure you spread them out well - and use the other thigh for novorapid as you do more of these injections than levemir ones. i inject levemir into my left thigh and noovorapid into my right thigh, tummy and just above the waist on my back. You could try switcing to injecting novorapid into the upper arms instead, and then after doing that for a while you could maybe go baack to your original sites and just keep alternating :)
Hope you get the answers you need! :)

Sugar,

I can't help you with the levemir query as I tried levemir myself and couldn't get good control using it. Regards to injecting basal/bolus then you can use the stomach, arms and thighs for your novo (just be aware that insulin works faster in the stomach, slower in the arm and slower still in the thighs) and levemir in the thighs and buttocks. Injecting in the buttocks is easy once you get the hang of it.

The following offers some excellent advice regarding injection insulin and site rotation:
