Of course, I do have a family history and am 20 Kg over weight as well.....my grandparents on mom's side are severe diabetic's and also have heart ailments.

Keeping my chin up...trying to coup up with this news...soon wanna get over this feeling....wanna quickly get going to see what changes I need to put in place.

Hence joined here to find out more!

Hi, Welcome :)

Id say life will be too short if we dont worry

have a read of the forum and ask questions if you have them

best of luck

My morning blood sugar levels are always high. It reads anywhere between 150 mg/dl to 170 mg/dl. Any idea how to control this aspect?

yes

what do you eat?

do you exercise?

what meds if any do you take?

Many of us find that cutting down drastically on carbohydrates, the main culprits are bread, rice, pasta and potatoes (hopefully sweet things goes without saying) helps bg, basically carbs turn into glucose once eaten so the less you put in the less will be in there, exercise is also an awesome way to get bgs down and so is weight loss, low carbing is also a very effective way to reduce your weight, the morning reading being high could well be due to dawn phenomenom this basically means because we dont eat during the night our livers respond to the lack of blood glucose but making some and pumping it in, it thinks we need it to get up and go, this is perfectly normal and very frustrating but as your bg numbers come down this effect should also improve in time

Early morning (7am) - Empty stomach - 6 soaked almonds.

Morning(8am) - One Cup Tea (250 ml) with Diabetic Friendly Biscuits.

Then afternoon (12 noon) - 3 chapaties (Indian bread made of multiple whole grains) with vegetable.

Early evening (4pm)- One Cup Tea (250 ml) with Diabetic Friendly Biscuits

Dinner (9pm) - 2 chapatis with vegi.

Evening (6.30pm to 7.30pm)-brisk walk. After walk, blood sugar reading is always between 130 mg/dl to 150 mg/dl.

Welcome CoolGuy .
I find the low carb forum is a great help to me, I've dropped my blood sugar substantially in the short time I've been following it .
Lots of luck

mate, Chapatis arent so good as said, although a traditional staple, this is going to be hard to cut out as they are a major part of your diet

and diabetic friendly biscuits/? what are those?

Yeah...its quite hard to quit as we are used to multiple whole grain wheat chapaties & rice. I do take brown rice once a week but!

They are low carb sugar free biscuits. Six of them make up to 19 gm of Carb. Appx 38 gm Carb per day.

do you test? i fear you may struggle with your numbers unless you can find an alternative :(

What I understand with my limited knowledge is ~ "American Diabetes Association does not recommend a specific mix of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. Rather, it refers people to the guidelines of the Institute of Medicine. These recommend that healthy adults get 45 to 65 percent of their calories from carbohydrates, 20 to 35 percent from fats, and 10 to 35 percent from protein.

ADA discourages low-carb diets (diets that limit carbohydrate to fewer than 130 grams per day). Carbohydrates are major sources of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals (health-promoting chemicals in plants). People who overly restrict carbohydrates can miss out on these benefits as well as the good flavors of carbohydrate foods"

Up to you fella! :) If you think the ADA is correct then go for it-Most of us find such carb levels a big no-no for good diabetic control.

mate, if you limit to 130g of healthy veg, lentils and beans, you will be fine. how many carbs do you think you are eating now?

As I said earlier, this is the pattern I am following currently.
No medication is advised as of date!

Early morning (7am) - Empty stomach - 6 soaked almonds.
Morning(8am) - One Cup Tea (250 ml) with Diabetic Friendly Biscuits - 19 gm carb!
Afternoon (12 noon) - 3 chapaties (Indian bread made of multiple whole grains) with vegetable - 60+ gm carb
Early evening (4pm)- One Cup Tea (250 ml) with Diabetic Friendly Biscuits - 19 gm carb
Dinner (9pm) - 2 chapatis with vegi - 40+ carb

Evening (6.30pm to 7.30pm)-brisk walk. After walk, blood sugar reading is always between 130 mg/dl to 150 mg/dl.

In total, i guess ... i am consuming approximately - 130 gm to 150 gm Carb per day.

I don't eat much other than what I have mentioned. For sure, I am consuming around 150 gm of Carb and restricted to around 1250 calories per day.
I shall check those...!
