Think Like a Pancreas comes highly recommended.
 
Dr Richard Bernstein's Complete Diabetes solution. It's a difficult read, and EXTREMELY hardcore, but the man really knows his stuff.
 
Would second Charles's recommendation. Really important, and the diabetic's best hope.
