Hey guys do hope everyone had a good Christmas. If any of you recall I was diagnosed in April with a HbcA1 of 74 then when I was tested again it was down to 35 I am also 3 stone lighter.
Okay an update is I was due to have another test before christamas but I had a fall and had to cancel and rearrange.
Here is my question and all advice would be good I am at the moment having lots of issues with my vison and given the tests I have had done and the fact my levels are so low the Drs say its not connected to the diabets anyway this has resulted in me becoming pretty depressed because its effecting my ability to Lip read ( I am deaf ).
Now there is nothing any of you kind people can do about that but you may be able to offer a whirlwind of advice on another matter and stop an already stressed out women getting anymore stressed out.
right here goes my questions
1 . Is it okay to have a drink or not ??
2. I noticed on a post I was reading that some had said that if they saw a reading Of 6 .9 it would concern them !!! 6.9 is okay I was told now mine are usually on fasting about.
5 .6 !!! And after my last meal of the day about 7 ish or just over again I was told this is fine.
The thing is these are my readings and when I last had my HbcA1 done it was well within normal range.
So are my numbers okay ??
3. For the past tw days I have woken up with areal thirst and to reassure me my husband took my BG levels on fasting and they we about the normal 5 .5 mark ???
So should I be worried.
I am trying so hard to let my hair down and enjoy this Christmas has its been a tough few years here but I can't seem to relax and keep thing my diabetes is out of control.
I have stopped testing as much because my levels have dropped so much and to be honest I can't afford the cost.
Please guys you have never failed me yet please if you have any advice I would love to hear it.
I am due to go out with my son tonight for a meal and I would love to just let my hair down and start living again .
Hi Sharon,
I was just going to answer your questions as you put them.
But first I see your doctor has taken you off medication that would suggest that you are very borderline diabetic which is a good thing.
1. You are OK drinking as you are not on medication, but be aware that excessive alcohol would be no good for anyone, Spirits Gin Vodkas Dry Wines white and red are OK. Diet mixers preferable. The sugary liqueurs will raise numbers, Beer raises larger not so much.
2. I don't know what context the 6.9 was in and the comments attributed to that number but 6.9 is within Non diabetic range so I for one would not be worrying,
The After meal of 5.6 seems a very good figure but is this 2hrs after you started eating?
3. The fasting 5.5 seems pretty OK to me I have those numbers and I am happy, you maybe need to look at the thread that people post their Fasting readings each morning and you will get an idea where you sit.

Your numbers seem pretty good, but you say you have stopped testing, lots didn't test over xmas as they knew they may go over their controlled numbers and they have let their hair down.
Maybe you need to do a day of testing just to reassure yourself on the meals you are having. That is of course the test just before eating and at least 2hrs after and from the first reading the second should be within 2mmol of the first.
You mention you cannot afford the cost, not sure what tester you have but the SD Code free is about £11.00 to buy and the strips are about £6.50 for 50 it's certainly one of the less expensive.
