I found out from the vet today that the low carb diet that they use for diabetic cats is called "Catkins". they have to have insulin too though. Cats apparently get a kind of T2, dogs T1

Hi Hanadr,
Believe this or not I had a diabetic cat they did'nt say if it was T1 or T2 I used to have to inject it once a day. It was all hit and miss though no glucose meters, I had to test urine samples that was the worst bit, the injecting was easy, gave it another 2 years to live in which time it was the most pampered cat on the planet.
It took a lot of courage to post this I'm sure I'll get loads of ridicule, and yes it was on a low carb diet.

No ridicule from me. I haven't had a diabetic yet, but nursed a dog with congestive heart failure for the last 5 months of her life. and an eye injury to an old blind dog, which it was thought would have to be removed, but I saved it. He still had no sight, but he hadn't before, which was why he'd injured it by walking into a Christmas tree. My brother is a vet and they have treatments now that put human medicine to shame. Hospital acquired infections? No. In addition, they don't depend on their patients to tell them what is wrong with them. It was my brother who told me about the T1 dogs and T2 cats. I currently have 3 dogs and 2 cats living in my house, that I'm responsible for.

Hi Hanadr,
I decided not to have any more pets I get far to attached to them, thats why I took on the responsibility of treating my cats diabetes there was only one other alternative and I could not face that, I do enjoy other peoples pets though.
