I posted a message earlier today about fasting and BS and the liver. After research it to me that my 'dumps' sugar into my bloodstream when fasting. Apparently there are drugs that reduce this tendency. Does anybody use them? Are there any other methods to reduce the dump? Is it true that if I went on a highly restricted carb diet this would not solve the problem as the liver can make sugar out of other foods?

If you want people to respond to your questions, you will need to provide more information :

Where did you find out about a connection between fasting and liver dumps ?
Which drugs are you referring to ?

Unless we know how someone makes a connection, we can't answer your question about very low-carbing.
It's only your brain that has a glucose requirement. Your body producing it in the absence of carbohydrates is not going to greatly increase your blood sugar, so that's all I can say for now.

Hi

Thanks for reply. I thought that muscles needed glucose hence muscle cell glycogen which provides an immediate release of glucose to the muscle. Perhaps my human biology book is wrong. Liver dump comes from Diabetes Co.Uk which indicates that after sleep the liver dumps a variety of hormones and glucose into the body. There is a video about it on the site as well. As the drug, I heard about it and was fishing for information.

Hi

It seems that metformin is the drug which best reduces the production of glucose in the liver. The advice on blood sugar 101 seems sensible to restrict carbs but if does not work try in combination with metformin. I have been too cavalier with my use of metformin. Will monitor closely the result. A cursory glance at the recent research literature appears to pointing to the role of the liver and diabetes especially if your fasting readings are higher than your post meal readings. Restricted carbs reduce my post meal BS but appear quite high in the morning.
