My god I'm confused! I've been at this lo-carb thing a while and I'm happy with my results. Been checking my fasting blood every morning and getting readings between 7 and 8mmol (not great, but better tan it's been in a while). I've also been checking when I get home from work (about 5.30pm - around 4.5hrs after eating lunch) and getting similar results.
Here's the thing. Yesterday I slipped up big time. I ate my lunch (some sliced chicken, ham, and some tabasco olives) and then at around 1pm, I had a custard doghnut. Then another at about 1.30pm. Then another at around 3pm.
I felt guilty as hell, but did not feel any of the effects that I used to after pigging out on carbs (no tiredness, etc...)
Checked my blood when I got home...
6.5mmol!!! That's the best reading I've had for at least a month! I then had salt and pepper squid with a little curry sauce and fried onion for supper (around 8pm) measured my blood, and got a reading of 8.2mmol.
I don't know what to make of that. Could it be that I sould eat some carbs? ( I usually aim for ZERO carbs (except that in veg)) to give me some margin for error. Can dawn phenomenon be attributed to my fasting readings. Should I try introducing some carbs? It seems downright stupid that I can eat 3 doghnuts without a high reading, but that a sandwich of wholemeal bread sends my sugars up...
I thought I was pretty up to speed on lo-carbing. Seems I was wrong! :x
