Folks,

I must be weird, I am lo-carb on metformin and suffering from constipation. I always used to take fibosyl gel, but there are no nutritional contents on the packet and am afraid they may be loaded with sugar. Any advice ?... :?:

Thx Steve

Coconut oil!

Get pure unrefined stuff. A tablespoon in your coffee in the morning and watch those babies fly!

Warning: Start off with a teaspoon and work up to a tablespoon. If you eat too much too quickly you can get stomach pains and maybe become too loose, if you know what I mean!

Some people claim it has fat burning properties and a whole host of other benefits such as lowering BG. I don't know about that, but it's fat is he medium chain variety so it metabolites quickly, a nice boost of energy in the morning. I think it was essential for me in the early days when I was getting carbs out of my system!

Cauliflower with dinner, cream in 5 cups of coffee a day, nuts in between meals - what constipation - never ever been as regular.

A construction worker goes to the doctor and says, "Doc, I'm constipated."
The doctor examines him for a minute and then says, "Lean over the table."
The construction worker leans over the table, the doctor whacks him on the butt with a cricket bat, CRACK... and then sends him into the bathroom.
He comes out a few minutes later and says, "Doc, I feel great. What should I do to prevent constipation? "

The doctor says, "Stop wiping with cement bags."

Hi Steve,

You could always try those "diabetic chocolates" that we generally advise people to steer clear of. Instead of sugar they use a laxative as a sweetener.

But don't overdo it or you will rapidly develop the opposite problem.

Bernstein recommends psyllium husks. Obtainable at the health store. I find keeping up with a LOT of greeen leafy veggies as well as drinking a lot. is the answer. Are you blood pressure medication by any chance? some of those tend to cause constipation, because they dehydrate you.

BP is normal so no cause there.
The laxative sweetener is usually sorbitol and we are warned off it by Bernstein.
Thx for the advice, I might try the husks as I dont take coffee...

Just a thought, I am averaging about 45 g carb per day - there may be very little waste to pass - rather than waste that I cant budge (sorry about the graphics  )....

Tablespoon of coconut oil in a creamy coffee every morning, reguilar as anything and a great energy boost to boot!
