Ok so im on my second attempt at low carbing, my first attempt after xmas i was getting really bad headaces and only lasted a week, my bs did get better but went back up. I decided to try again and for some reason im getting on much better, been doing it for two weeks with really no carbs, got my levimir down from 90 units to about 64 still putting it down day by day as i got up at 3.9 this morning, bs now between 4 and 8 instead of 5 to 16, not eating any **** anymore, used to crave food all the time and would eat sweets and loads of them but im not even hungry anymore, the only problem i have is am not losing any weight, even a couple of pound would have made me happy, i am around 2 stone over weight. Any advice?

thanks mark

Persevere, Mark!

The weight loss will come. It may take a wee while to begin because it sounds as if you are insulin resistant to some degree. As your Levemir dose is falling, you are slowly becoming less insulin resistant, which is a fantastic outcome.

Essentially, when your insulin levels are high, as yours have been, the body finds it impossible to burn stored fat. Your levels are still relatively high, but as they fall, the weight loss will become easier. Promise!

I find that drinking LOTS of water helps keep the headaches away. I'll tell you a little secret... To start burning fat, EAT LOTS OF FAT. Avoid trans-fat, though. Butter, Cream, Olive Oil - it's all good...

Are you exercising at all, since low carbing I have increased my exercise because it is good for me and because I have a lot more energy and I am sure this helps the weight loss.

My problem is the exact opposite. I was always within the "normal" BMI and Ive already last about 6 pounds since November. While I feel (and have been told) I look better for it, im worried ill end up going too low.

Does the weight loss eventually just balance out and stop?

I lost weight low carbing for 2 years and now it's stopped. I desperately want it to start again. It's 6 months since I lost anything. I haveen't incresased my carbs and I don't eat much of anything.
I'm frustrated. BGs are good HbA1c 5.6%

Hi Mike,
I had problems with losing too much weight, have gained a little and stablized at what I feel happy with. I have upped my intake of nuts and also increased the size of my portions and also liberally douse my salads with olive oil. A small packet of macadamia nuts has (from memory!) 600 calories so half a packet after lunch or dinner soon builds up the calories.

I wish I would one day be able to worry about stopping to lose weight... I have lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks so far and have so far to go yet.But as I understand, the weight should balance itself out but if you are going too low in your mind, that of course isn't nice.

Have you considered that you may not be eating enough? I have found that in the past, when my weight loss has stopped or slowed, I hadn't been eating enough for my body to carry on weightloss. But on the high note, your a1c is good though!

Varioua people have suggested I might need to eat mor, but I'm not hungry. That part of the low carbing is working perfectly.

I know the feeling, my appetite is much reduced now with metformin and lower amount of carbs. You could try adding coconut oil into coffee, I saw someone here do that.

I do that, apparently it is supposed to help burn fat. I don't know about that but it does give me lots of energy and keeps me regular, if you know what I mean. Start off slow though, I started off eating a tablespoon and got severe stomach pain and violent diarrhea. A teaspoon in coffee to start once a day, then increase, I have 3 tablespoons a day now. Lovely!
