Hi I'm taking my treatment and getting a pump private after being entirely fed up with how type 1's get treated by the NHS in my area bit extreme i know but weighing up cost to quality of life there is no contest! I've booked an appointment with London Medical and was wondering if anyone had been to them or knew anyone who has they seem fab but then would do as they will be taking my cash lol

Sorry Belle can't help you out directly.

could I ask how you go on with the repeat prescriptions for all the pump equipment when you are self funding. will you get all your vials of insulin for it and cannulas ect?

Will you just have the initial outlay with London Medical for the pump, or will you have to pay for follow up consultations? Or will your Diabetic team with the NHS then take over?

hope someone will come along to help you directly.

Best of luck with it all

Hi thanks for your reply I've spoken to my GP who surprisingly was all for the idea he said there shouldn't be a problem with the monthly consumables and as far as follow up appointments go I'm going to see how the initial appointments with them go firstly but my GP said they would pick my treatment up and hopefully once I have the pump I won't need them as much.I've waited 18 months to be put on the Dafne course but apparently they only run occasionally in my area and they seem to think as I have a full time job and have gone through 2 pregnancies relatively unscathed my consultants and whatever DN is there at the time think I'm invincible lol

That's very interesting Belle, I hope you manage to get on a DAFNE course as this will really help you with your pump . I can't believe you have waited 18 months and still no DAFNE..none of us are invincible and all need a little help and compassion from time to time...sorry your lot are not very forthcoming ....Let us know how you go on with the self funding, it is interesting ,and I'm sure your journey will help a lot of people.

good luck :D

Hi Belle,

Great to see your post about London Medical. I've not been yet, but am planning to go. My experiences with the NHS (pregnancy, miscarriage, diabetes etc) has not been too great, awful in fact, and for what it is worth, I am hoping that a private consultation will back-up my NHS treatment or not as the case may be. I've now been 'released' back to my GP and am due for my first appointment with her soon.

I will discuss the pump with both LM and GP, but at the moment I do not see this as entirely practical for me.

Good luck to you with your appointment, would be happy to share war-stories with you
