Long lasting insulin

By doing a basal test. Inject long acting, don’t eat, test every hour, see if sugars go up or down more than 2 all day.
Not quite that simple but that sums it up.

The way my level was adjusted was by looking at my fasting glucose levels. If they were high my basal was lowered unit by unit until I got a nice steady within target level with no, or fewer overnight hypos.

So the day I decide to fast do I still take my novarapid even though I'm not eating

No, you take your long acting - levemir/lantus /tresiba or whichever you use.

Do u think its a good idea to split the dose so 7 in morning 7 at night cause I found out yesterday that levimir only lasts 12 hrs not 24

Your long acting should keep you level without eating (and thus without taking your mealtime insulin).
