Hi everyone,
my name is Christine and I was diagnosed with Type 2 just over 2 years ago now.
I'm in Australia, work full time, am in my mid-40's, am married and have 4 kids (his mine and ours).
I currently weigh 85kgs (187 lbs or 13 stone) at 162cms (5'6"). I need to get down to 70kg.
I was very probably GD with my second pregnancy and was diagnosed GD with my third child.
After faffing about with my GP who's advice was: take metformin, lose weight, exercise more,
check your BSLs on the meter you got when pregnant..... I moved to my very good endocrinologist.
I found I was allergic to metformin in the doses I needed (got the runs) and as my main symptom was
tiredness found I couldn't exercise. "just lose some weight" was not really helping....
Dr C diagnosed me very thoroughly as being LADA which made sense to me as I have always eaten
fairly healthily but struggled with weight and even when I exercised, I did not lose much.
I got down to 77 from 100 kgs initially but have bounced back and am now struggling.
I've been a longtime lurker on this forum and thought I would finally make my first post.
I have a theory that constant and chronic stress contributes to or switches on LADA.
Had I had a relaxing life, I would probably be type 2 in my seventies.
I had my gallbladder removed at 35 during my yucky first marriage and pitched court battles and
harassment from the mother of my stepson are what activated my diabetes...IMHO.
My research shows strong links with stress hormones, digestion and diabetes.
I am allergic to adrenalin as well - found this out when, after years of normal injections for fillings,
I had a bad reaction.
BSLs are really good but a bit high in the mornings (7) and bounce are the 5's during the day.
I take Victoza (protein injection that helps slow absorption/digestion of glucose)
Forxiga (which prevents absorption of 50% sugars)
Vitamin D (like most diabetics, I'm deficient)
Magnesium (dietician has me on this for stress)
Vitamin B (dietician has me on this for stress)
Phentermine (to help with appetite suppression and tiredness)
Iron (I'm newly deficient - just did a few tests to find out what's up with this)
Vitamin C to help digest the iron and
Gingko to help brain function (this one is my own little addition to the mix and the dietician approves).
I really like Dr C as he has a clinic with dieticians, exercise folks, chiropodists, optometrist etc.
I see a chiropractor off my own bat and this seems to keep the very mild neuralgia at bay that I was having.
I am supposed to stick to a 1400 calorie diet but struggle in the evening as I like to chew and can't seem
to give up licorice. My plan is to swap this out for chewing gum and/or an apple.
Thankyou for listening and letting me join somewhere I can reel all this off without feeling like a whinger or an invalid!
