What is meant when they say look after you sugar levels ? do they mean keep testing 2 hours after meal; or does the test have to be
within a certain range all the time ?

I would say it means to control your blood sugar levels to minimise any spikes in blood sugars, which may be at any time depending what you have eaten e.g. a pizza may not spike you at 2 hours but at 4!
As a lot of us say "eat to your meter" i.e. know what foods do to you and try to tailor them to control your b.g.

Hi Celast,

as Fergus says, it's about knowing what your body reacts to. A reading above 7.8 (or 8.5 officially) is probably doing you harm, so your target should be to never let your levels go that high.
So you test your blood glucose (using a meter) before you eat something. You write down what you're eating. You then test again after 1hr ideally and then after 2 hrs. Some people try to get the 2hr reading back to the same number as the pre-meal reading, but I find that rarely happens. My aim is to keep all my readings below 7.8 .

I found that impossible when I started but now, 4 months later, it's relatively easy.

Yeah, agree with the above. I settle for less than 7.8 at two hours- cant be testing all the time! I know what foods do that now so don't test so often. Just now and again when I try something new or to ensure things aren't changing. After a while, you'll probably decide you'd like to have lower targets than 7.8 and will start setting your own.
