hi i am lookig at ggetting a CODEFREE BLOOD GLUCOSE METER/MONITOR anyone know if there any good??
 
There are differing opinions. I can only give you my experience. I bought mine as my first meter at diagnosis. The strips and lancets are cheap, it is easy to use. It is a meter not a gadget which is exactly what I wanted. I like it and have no intention of changing it. I can pop it into it's case, put it in my handbag and go. A really good and easy to use little meter.
 
well after talking with my othe half he reckons i dont need it or th drs would have given me one!!!! :?
he ndead thinks i am making a big thing of it all!!!!! :? :| roblem:
 
Doctors very rarely give meters to anyone hun. A meter will help your control as you can test to see which foods effect you and how much, without having to guess. Maybe you should show hubby some of the posts here about surgerys not giving meters to anyone except T1s then see what he says.
 
Doctors don't give type 2's meters purely because of cost. Having a meter is the only way that you can find out how foods affect your BG level. Lots on here have the SD meter and are quite happy with it. If not tried that one as I bought the Accuchek Compact plus when I was diagnosed, ebay is where I buy my strips etc, much cheaper than the chemist.

yep i told my hubbie all of this and he said no!
i am sure like i said he thinks i am making a big thing of it! i dont think he really understands how life changing it is for me and that i have to watch what i eat doe ect!
i say this couse both him and my 2 sons (12 & 9) seem to think its fun to try hurt my feet after i have told them that i have to take care of my feet and to try my upmost to not hurt them in any way! (already have an infection in my toe that is been treated by the nurse) but they find it funny to try hurt them all the time!!! really upsets me that they do this and dont take it serious!

ok sorry i have ranted on there but do you know what i think i needed to let it out!!!!!
 
I'd be giving hubby a kick up the bum and getting one anyway. I eat to my meter and now know what I can safely eat. I wouldn't be in this position without my meter. Perhaps get hubby to read some posts here, and he will understand how vital a meter is. You would be very lucky indeed to get one from your GP. Most of us buy our own, and our own strips.
 
i know gp wont give me 1 as i asked him and the nurse when i was first diagnosed!! everything i have read says i need 1 even my mum agrees with me i need 1 but nope he just thinks i am making mountins out of mole hills!!!!!

think i need a fairy god mother lol!!!!
 
i just think i can make him understand and see that i would benefit from getting one :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

really getting me down to be honest but i am doing my best not to let it show!!! :silent: roblem:
 

You're certainly not making mountains out of molehills. I think the problem is, many of us are so indoctrinated to blindly believe everything our GP's tell us we follow without question. That may be the case with hubby (he isn't the first and won't be the last). Please for your own sake, keep on about needing a meter, and as I say show him some posts on here. Good luck.
 
thank you both for taking the time to read my posts and answer me back xxx i will keep dropping hints and hopefully he will eventually say yes! and if not i will just have to buy one with my birthday money in june!!! (which i am also going to use to used to put towards what i already have saved for my tattoos! my 3 kids names grandad with halo above the 'G' and then diabetic 2 with the 'T' and the '2' in red and a blue curcle around the 2 also!!)
 
lucylocket61 thats the one i am after but found it on ebay for £11.95p inc p&p which i thought was good and comes with everything i need!
 

I'm not a fan of tattoo's (on me) so I would spend it on strips and a meter as that would be a priority. However, pre diabetes, I am sure I would have replaced your tattoo with something that was incredibly bad for me, so a tattoo could well be a much better option for a diabetic :lol:
 
Hiya,

I bought my first one AVIVA ACCU CHECK and then got strips on prescription. Then had to buy another when it broke. The last one I got free off the internet simply by answering some questions online.....Its a OneTouch UltraEasy just stumbled on the offer online. I get the strips for it on prescription. ( Hope I dont have to start buying them !?!? ) Its worth having a look online..... :wink: Hope you get one

I actually can't believe what I'm reading. Are you really being serious?

You have money saved for tattoos yet say you'll wait til june to buy a meter? Take the money from tattoo fund and replace with birthday money,

I'm sorry to be blunt but is it hubby not taking this seriously or yourself?

mary i havent got enough saved to get a meter in my fund eather hence why i havent said i will do that! :? if i had i would do it that way! :cry:
i understand what this all means as i am the 3rd generation 4th person in my family to get type 2! (my great grandma, grandma and grandad and now me!)
trubble with hubbie is he has his mum in his ear when he tells her what i am after getting (whether i need it or just want it) she tells him i dont need them and not to give into me! shes one of these that thnks she knows everything about everything!!!

lol well i was going to get the tattoo of my kids names and grandad befor i was told i am diabetic but had to save up for them and then when i was diagnosed i said i would add the diabetic on to them and that way i always have it on me should i forget to put on or loose the bracelet i made with it on or necklaces (i wear them but always seem to snap the chains!) and there for thought a tattoo was a god idea as will always be there! xxx

This is what made me think you have some already available. It is up to us all what we spend our money on especially when times are hard.

i personally couldnt have controlled my diabetes (albeit for only 4 months so far) without a meter.

You have to decide for yourself where you place it in your own list of priorities.
