Looking at the big picture

Since I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, my health seems to have spiralled downwards.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I have a pinprick rash over my feet and legs, which is getting worse. I have also been diagnosed with chronic anaemia, chronic sinusitis, and hypothyroidism.

I have just recently developed problems with my salivary glands - I have a nasty infection and it is causing excruciating pain. There may be a stone in one of the ducts, and I have an appointment at the ENT clinic, but in the meantime I'm off work, and now starting to struggle with money (I dont get paid when I'm off sick).

My blood sugars are actually coming down (7.2 from 7.9), but I now appear to have a problem with my liver function test, and I'm having blood tests every two weeks to keep an eye on it.

I'm wondering if the doctors are just treating symptoms, and not looking at the situation as a whole. Has anyone else developed more problems other than worsening diabetes? Or had any experience of a problem that would cause all these problems as one illness?

I was diagnosed in March and although I was having a few problems at that time, once diagnosed, on meds and low carbing I started to feel better.

After a blood test I was called into the surgery and asked how much alcohol I drink as one test (liver?) showed some problems so they wanted to tell me to cut down on my boozing.

I havent drank alcohol for about 10 years and was never much of a drinker when I did drink so no idea what the problem there was, its never been mentioned since so I assume things are ok now.

If I were you id speak to your doctor and ask what the problem is, or whats causing all these problems, I certainly wouldnt go away and be left wondering to myself, so maybe get back to the docs?

Hope you start to feel better soon anyway!

Thanks for your reply. My doctor asked the same thing, and was surprised when I said I drink virtually nothing (my last alcoholic drink was in April). I think he thought I was a heavy drinker.

I asked him what could be causing all these difficulties, and he said diabetes could cause all of this, but I'm not convinced.

I've got an ENT clinic appointment so I'll ask then. My friend's sister in law is a doctor, and suggested I look up Sjogren's Syndrome - which I did, and out of a long list, there's only two symptoms I dont have, so I'll ask them about it when I see them.
