Hi All,
Looking for advice. I’m currently on Tamoxifen which can raise your sugar level but not by much. Tamoxifen is known to cause diabetes.
I went to my doctors 3 weeks ago and told him that I am thirsty all the time, up all night to use the toilet, exhausted and I’m losing weight. I have been checking my sugar levels and they are regularly sitting at 12 (fasting) or at 3.3.
My GP told me that I was being ridiculous, that I’m thin and exercise and they checked my blood 8 months ago so I couldn’t possibly have diabetes. He is refusing to do a blood test or do any other tests.
I am at a loss on what to do as sitting in A& E while on tamoxifen opens me up to getting sick.
I have complained but it hasn’t gotten anywhere.

Hello and welcome, @ACB24 .
I am sorry you are having this anxiety.
Have you, previously, had a blood test HbA1c that indicated prediabetes, or are you coming to that conclusion from your own blood tests?

Although we cannot make any diagnosis, if you have prediabetes and are concerned about the fluctuating blood glucose levels, and symptoms then perhaps you could ask for a second opinion. Maybe seek advice from the clinician that prescribed Tamoxifen for you. Or ask a pharmacist when your prescription is dispensed. Some pharmacists can carry out the HbA1c test privately, but in your situation I would be preferring to push for a second opinion at the surgery.

Don’t just put up with it though.
Do let us know how you get on.
Best wishes, Pipp.
