I was misdiagnosed for years. I had asked if I could be a type 1 as I had an uncle that had died from type 1 diabetes. I believe because I have always been overweight they just categorized me as type 2. It took a new endo that decided to test me to find out I was type 1/LADA. They thought I would be upset but I was happy. I had been a vegan and swam laps and while I had fairly good control A1C of 7.2, it was just okay. Luckily I had already been put on insulin because medications made me sick. I thrived on insulin. But I was happy about the diagnosis, because it explained everything!!! I now knew what I was dealing with! I started using insulin more correctly as before I thought my body could just "cope" when I skipped shots etc. When I was diagnosed properly I ended up going on a pump and never looked back! I hover around an A1C of 6.4. I am not low carb. Some are amazed I am happy about the diagnosis, but when you are frustrated and things didn't make sense, it's the answer that helps. I have always eaten right as I was a vegetarian since I was 11, I was always active, I swam laps and walked a lot at work, The proper diagnosis meant everything and answered everything!
