Hi everyone I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes approximately 10+ years ago. My father died from complications of diabetes ( both legs amputated). He was insulin dependent. I've struggled with weight gain & quick weight lose most of life. Many years ago I tried the Adkins diet (high protein/low carb). My metabolism kicked in quickly after 2-3 weeks & I lost approximately 15-20 lbs & had a problem stop losing weight. If I missed a meal, there went another 4-5 lbs lost. I couldn't control the loss, my metabolism would kick in. Went from size 14/16 to sz 6. As yrs passed & I got older my struggle with weight returned & my A1C usually stayed above normal (6.7-6.10). I hav hypertension but was controlled with low dose medication. My cholesterol was always very high. I have been taking Metformin 400mg X2/day since Dx. The past 2-3 yrs I hav maintained a fluctuating weight gain of 197-199, sz 2X. A1C didn't change very much over 6.10. In April 2023 my doctor Rx'd Ozempic .25 mg. I loss 15 lbs in 2 weeks; 40 lbs in 4 months. A1C 5.6. I've maintained a 26 inch waist & sz 4.. I never changed the mg dose because .5 made me nauseous & I was already losing so quickly. My skin looks like a dried up prune, flabby, wrinkled skin has been outcome of losing wt so quickly & not exercising. I had no idea your muscle weight is the 1st to go. I admire how Ozempic miraculously changed my taste buds, did not crave sweets or certain "not healthy " foods. I gravitated to salads. The loss of appetite was concerning so I started buying carnation liquid multi vitamin/mineral breakfast to get my nutrients. Constipation was terrible. If I took a laxative it might work too good while sleeping. Not wanting to lose more weight & try to get my digestive system back in wack I stopped the Ozempic pretty much all together for almost 8 months. I don't want to Lose more wt but my unhealthy taste buds are returning & I feel my A1C & cholesterol woes will return. My blood pressure has become a major problem. I had to go to ER (200/110). Took 2 hrs to bring it down! My b/p meds have been increased. I want the other benefits of Ozempic but how can I continue to use without more weight loss. It's been suggested to divide the .25 dose in 1/2. I've thought about putting more time between weekly shots like every 2wks. Any suggestions from anyone that's had same or similar problem(s). Thank you!!
