To loose weight you need to look at the amount of carbs and the type of carbs you are eating. Obviously make sure you adjust your insulin accordingly.
Do you carb count? If not then ask to be put on a course to learn about dose adjustment, this way you can control what you eat and inject. Exercise is a very important part of the whole process though.

I do not carb count no and I previously went to a course to learn it but found it too difficult to pick up and made life a lot more hassle then needed. I do exercise but know its more about the food you eat as well, thank you though

Carb counting is very simple and hassle free if taught correctly. Makes life so much easier as well. But if you have a closed mind then obviously you wont get anywhere. Which is a great pity If you use set doses of insulin then you are feeding the insulin which ='s weight gain without putting any effort into it.
Ask for 1 - 1 teaching plus a meter which works out your insulin dosage for you. These meters are fantastic for the mathematically challenged like me
Ah I see you are in Plymouth, so the pasty course is on the menu. Do ask for the extra help, you are entitled to it.
Ok... So to loose weight you have to eat less. Which means you will need less insulin... Which means if you can't carb count that you need to do changes with the help of a healthcare professional.
Yes, it is portion control but if you can't carb count and adjust your doses according to the food you eat then you are not going to manage control your weight or your blood levels.
What insulin do you take now? And what sort of foods do you eat in a typical day?

Try the following, its an on-line carb counting course which is similar to the DAFNE course, just take your time to work through it and if you have any questions just come back and ask:
To lose weight you need to reduce our calorie intake, when you burn more calories than you consume the weight will begin to come off, if you need guidance on cutting back on your calorie intake then ask to speak with a dietitian at your hospital diabetes clinic (if your under their care).
