Losing weight

Evie_little

Newbie
Hi am newly diagnosed 7 weeks ago type 1 , am 60 fit and active and still in shock but coping ok , working to stabilise blood sugars on levemir and novo rapid . Lost 16 pounds whilst poorly , seemed to stay same as discharge weight for first few weeks now have lost another couple of pounds . I've read that I won't put on while I'm on low carb trying to get blood sugars stable but I don't want to lose any more weight and be too skinny , I'm a bit worried can anyone help with some advice please , thanks

If you wish to remain on your low carb diet then you will need to get your extra calories (to prevent weight loss) from fat or/and protein.

You are unlikely to see any change in BGL, from fat or protein increases, although protein can affect some diabetics BGL.

Avocado and nuts are examples of healthy fats and protein is self explanatory really.

Keep up the good work:)

Hi @Evie_little
welcome to the forum :)
in these early days after diagnosis you need to be kind to yourself
blood sugars will vary sometimes inexplicably -- but sticking to a routine helps to
minimise fluctuating BG's.

also remember -- you can only learn and gain experience in real time -- no quicker , so again it points towards being kind to yourself.

Sorry you HAVE to be here -- but since you are .... do keep posting and keep us up to date on how you get on.

it is a great community !!
