Hi all, my 1st post on here but have been an active reader and follower for the last 3 years.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 in March 2013 and quickly found the sight and used the great advise on here to change my diet and to gain control over my diabetes. Within 6 months I was able to come off all meds and through exercise and a decent low carb diet things were all going well. HBA1C in June was 6.3.
However since then things haven't gone so well. I decided to stop smoking in May and now 5 months later have not touched a cigarette since then but whilst I was tackling that I stopped testing my blood sugars for a while (it had been so steady for the last 2 years and my diet was the same that I assumed, naively that things would be ok).
I then started testing again in Mid September and found that my blood sugar level had really shot up. Where my morning fasting levels were normally between 5 and 6.5 they were now over 12. Pre-dinner blood sugars which would normally be between 4 and 4.5 were now around 11. Pretty worrying stuff and I can't work out why. I still undertake the same if not more exercise, my diet has not changed, nor has my weight (I still have a BMI of 23).
Having contacted the surgery (they who don't support testing for Type 2's) they were pleased that I was testing and have stuck me back on Gliclazide and Metformin to help reduce these levels.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this sudden and abrupt loss of control and how to get it back? Or is it as may be suggested by the nurse that it could be that I have just stopped producing insulin and will have to accept that Low Carb and exercise no longer works for me?
