lost control of my blood sugar

Hi, I've had pancreatic diabetes for 10 years and have managed it well (mostly  ) but now I have totally lost control of it. I am recovering from surgery for quite a nasty hormone secreting 'gynae' cancer;because of this I'm not moving about much, not got much appetite, I'm tired and a bit depressed. As if this isn't enough my blood sugar is wild and just doesn't seem to correlate to what I'm eating. At at the moment. I'm getting unexpected hypos and hypers . I've even had a 27 which is 2x higher than any other BM in my life! Normally when my BM is getting low or high I can tell but these extremes just seem to come out of the blue - and I'm either freezing and shaking with a blinding headache or starving, peeing like a horse and thirsty enough to drink from the tap. I am really struggling to manage. I'm not enough pain for it to be an acute flare up of my pancreatitis but my pancreas is whining and unhappy.
I just don't know what to do and am so fed up

Hi. Obviously your condition is complex and none of us are in a position to comment much. I assume you are having low-GI carbs where you can to try to smooth your blood sugar as much as you can; also having carbs with fatty food will additionally help smooth the absorption. What diabetes tablets are you on? Do you tend to have more hypos or hypers?

thanks for answering, I do appreciate it. my medication changes depending on my pancreas, before my sugery i was taking meformin 850mg 3x a day and sitagliptin 100mg daily. my own gp is away for 2 more weeks so i saw a different one who suggested reducing the metformin to 500mg and stopping the sitagliptin and using insulin to bring high levels down but he admitted he didnt know much about managing this type. he also referred me back to a consultant. I haven't collected that prescription though as i am more worried about the hypos as I'm so unstable but i did stop the sitagliptin. Im trying to balance my carbs so they are identical for all 3 meals but i cant eat fats when my pancreas whines ( i make it sound like a puppy!) as it can tip me into pancreatitis.Ive had a couple of 2s and 3s this week whereas normally im between 5-8
I feel so pathetic because I cant manage this

Hi. It's really unusual to have sugars that low when you aren't taking any insulin or gliclazide so I can appreciate how difficult it must be for everyone involved to decide the best treatment. Obviously insulin would only make the hypos worse so having more carbs is the right approach but only when a hypo is expected. Let's hope the expert endos can help in the longer term.
