I''m with Carbsrok on this one, porcine insulin is the closest available to natural human insulin and would more than likely be your best bet. On Lantus I felt every up and down, but often felt hypo when I was not. What a blessed relief it is to be on insulin that is "insulin" and that actually does what I expect it to; if things go awry, there's always a logical explanation for it, human error
As for hypos, less of them and normal old-fashioned warning signs of slight nausea, hunger, short temper, & confusion. I can usually recognise a hypo is imminent at around 4.1,even though I feel ok, I just get a sense that i've got to check my BG, and my instinct is usually right. I feel safer generally, and especially at night.
I take Porcine Isophane in an unequal split dose, and porcine neutral with meals, the neutral has a very gentle action resulting in less hypo risk. Often slated for it's delayed action as it means a short wait between injecting and eating,20-30 mins, I don't find that a problem, and if I inject it straight before a meal not found it makes much difference, but then I'm a slow eater anyway
