hi,
sorry about this but I just need some advice please?
I know you must be sick of explaining this and I have read all the threads I can but I just need to check this out in case I'm going really wrong.....
I'm not sure if I'm reading my results correctly and am worried I'm not doing this low carb diet right :?
Anyway, background is; newly diagnosed on Monday this week T2, then levels were 17.1 fasting (is fasting the same as overnight?) Had to wait till Weds to get testing strips as DN doesn't agree with them so could only test once per day. I have tried to reduce my carbs to under 50g per day but given effects of metformin have only been able to manage at a guess under 20g per day.
Don't rush to too low a carb level at once ,Jan,take it down slowly otherwise you get terrible cravings!Try and steer clear of the starchy carbs such as bread ,potatoes ,pasta and rice and flour based products but replace them with good carbs such as veg.and fruit if you can eat that.
According to my meter my first test in the morning before breakfast has been steadily dropping and is now at 9.7.
For the last 2 days I have been testing before a meal and again 2 hrs afterwards but the results seem to be all over the place. eg a before meal test showed 9.7 but 2 hrs later it showed 8.9, whilst another time a before meal test showed 8.4 then shot to 9.3 2 hrs later. I am interpreting that as a carb I can't eat, is that correct?
It all depends in what was in the meal.If it was very low carb then your readings would go down from pre meal reading. If there was carbs in meal then it will go up.Keep a food diary and it will soon show you what the effects of what you are eating are.
Why does the after meal test sometimes show less than the before meal test?
Also, where an after meal test comes back with quite a spike I'm trying that same meal again but without the carb, is this the best way to do it?
I don't currently take a tablet at lunch time, (2 per day morning and evening at the moment rising to 4 per day next week). For the last couple of days I've been really shaky after lunch and light headed, is this because I don't take the tablet then or to do with my carbs? I have to sort this out because of returning to work and meetings on Monday so any advice is gratefully received.
Because your blood sugar levels have been very high when you drop down lower your body thinks it is 'hypoing' even though it is not. This will go away once your levels get to more normal levels.
Finally, I'm really worried because I work shift work with earlies and lates mix during one week period. I have 2 hr commute each way and on earlies have to leave home just before 5am and on lates dont get back till about 3.30am. Do i need to adjust my eating patterns and my times for taking the tablets? Does anyone else have this problem please? :?
Not sure on this one as I do not take medication.
Thanks in anticipation, Jan
