Hi Motherhen,
The reason you are told to drink salt water is because your body need electrolytes, but salt water tastes horrible. Bullion contains electrolytes including salt and is more palatable. :bookworm:

Because your avoiding salt I would advise drinking something like Lucozade Sport Water, zero sugar, zero carbs very low salt 0.05g but high in other electrolytes like magnesium which is very good for your liver. ;)

Your high readings may be due to Liver Dumps. This happens in the morning (that is why it is also known as the Dawn Phenomena) and it is the bodys way of giving us the energy we need to start the day. Liver dump can happen whenever we havn't eaten for a while and for non Diabetics this isn't a problem but for we with T2/Pre Diabetes the liver can dump a bit too much. As your body adjusts to lowered levels of carbs the insulin resistance may be reduced but this all takes time. Be patient, lass. You are doing the right thing.

Thank You Guzzler I am type 2 as well. It's not easy but I am keeping to it only have meat and vegetables and eggs, bacon, but what would be the best thing to start to raise carbs till I know my level. I am only having 20 to 30 a day.should I add bread or something else just not sure only thing I do know is potatoes are high in carbs, but some bread isn't. Would welcome your help.

If you are still getting readings in the 9's I wouldn't even think of adding back carbs at the moment. Wait until you have achieved lower levels by which time you might not miss them at all.

There are lower carb breads available such as Hi Lo, LiveLife and Burgen but even though they are lower carb we must be careful about how much of it we eat per day. As you have seen, potatoes are high carb as is pasta, rice and anything made with white flour so biscuits, pastry etc. Remember that the insulin response to carbs is the highest, it is less so for protein and there is only a marginal insulin response to fats. So as we lower (gradually) the level of carbs in our diet the insulin responses are lower. This does mean that we must substitute the carbs with protein and fats which will satisfy our hunger without causing the horrible spikes we sometimes see on our glucose monitors. I would advise that you concentrate on your pre meal and post meal readings, once you are happier with those then the fasting readings should follow in time.
