Hi just asking for advice, I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have checked my my urine a few times and it's had ++++ glucose in it most of the time, I don't understand this as I've normally only ate a pot noodle or something. I've been suffering with horrendous sickness and I'm now on anti sickness for that as it was so bad. I've never really thought I've ever suffered high blood sugar so I'm very surprised at this. I've always been on the borderline of under weight and if anything the only thing I've known I get is very low blood sugars from time to time. I've known them to be as low as 2mmol and 3mmol but this is usually because I've not had breakfast yet. I've read that always being thirsty and passing lots of urine was a symptom. I've always been thirsty but I put this down to drinking tea. As all I mainly drink is tea or water. While I was being very sick and not keeping food or drink down I started slurring my words and felt confused and my legs was weak. But that resolved after dipping my partners lucozade. What I was wondering is should I see my GP about this or will it just be due to pregnancy. I know you can get pregnancy diabetes but that usually starts later on.
You possibly have what is called gestational diabetes. It's important you see your GP as soon as possible for further investigation as if left untreated it is not good for your unborn child or you. If you are seeing high glucose in your urine it means your sugar levels are exceeding 10 mmol on the glucometer. My endo explained that any number over 10 means that sugar is getting into your urine. The higher the sugar level number, the more glucose in your urine. I hope you can get help soon. Take care.
Hi. Yes, you must see the GP as you probably do have diabetes but it may be 'just' gestational which means it may fade later. However as you say you are slim, it's always possible you have late onset T1 which will not fade. Either way you will need some meds at leats for a while. Control the carbs but ensure you have enough other foods for nutrients and to help you feel full. That includes proteins, fats, veg and non-tropical fruit
Thanks, I suppose I'll have to try and get an appointment with my GP some time this week. I'm hoping it's just one of them pregnancy things that no one can explain. But best getting it checked out.
