Low blood pressure from eating

In 2002 I was told I was prediabetic so I had gastric bypass and lost weight. Pretty soon after I started having diabetic symptoms but my A1c and fasting sugar was normal so I was told I'm normal. A few months ago things started getting worse. My blood sugar wasn't crazy high but every day it was getting higher with less food and staying high for longer.

So the doctor stated me with metformin and it brought my sugar down but I was still getting dehydrated/low blood pressure after eating very little. So he added galvus and I don't like it. Before I would get rapid heartbeat/heartburn when I needed to stop eating now that happens an hour after eating. So I have to stop eating when I'm still hungry or I eat too much.

So my sugar levels are real good but I get low blood pressure and dehydrated from eating. I know eating g a lot of carbs will do that but in my case I get low blood pressure from very small meals. So what should I do? Chanting my diet won't help because I've tried and it happens after taking 2 bites of food. What would be a good course in terms of medication? I am losing a lot of weight because I can't eat enough calories to maintain my weight without getting sick.

Hi Stacey and welcome to the forum
I think if I was in your position that I would ask to be referred to the Team that did your gastric bypass to make sure that everything is in order and from there I would ask for a Gastroenterology appointment.

I have looked at galvus and although there is a mention of nausea being a possible side effect there is nothing about low blood pressure.

Are you actually taking your blood pressure regularly and if so what do you consider is low?

I started to really feel symptoms in 2007 and I did every possible test to make sure it wasn't related to gastric bypass. I also saw two different gastroenterologists and both found nothing. I saw my surgeon who did gastric bypass and he said nothing went wrong with the surgery. I did go gluten free in 2007 and that helped at the time but I think it's because I was on a low carb diet and it controlled my blood sugar.

I think it's more of a drop in blood pressure. When I went for the OGTT the nurse took my blood pressure when I started to feel sick and normally my blood pressure is 120/70-80 and it was 110/60. It's not very low but I read it's the drop in blood pressure that makes you sick. Whenever I eat I feel that way so I'm assuming it's low blood pressure because my blood sugar is normal.

I know it is a sugar issue because some issues have gotten better. I am not as thirsty, I don't pee as much, my dry skin is better, my eye floater is much better and some other random health issues improved. It's just when I eat I feel sick.

I know it's not from the galvus or metformin because I felt this way before going on medication. When I first went on metformin a month ago I stopped getting low blood pressure from eating then it came back. I increased the dose and for a few days I felt better but it came back.

I have been taking Galvus for nearly 3 years. I have not had any bad side effects I was put on it after being unable to tolerate metformin in any form
