Hi,

I saw this advertised in the balance magazine last week and I can't find many reviews or information on the effectiveness of it for night time hypos. I am just changing my insulin again back from animal Hypurin/Porcine to a new regime for me basul/bolus Lantus and Novorapid which in itself is a great concern and I was wondering if anyone knew that these things could be trusted or had one?

http://www.lowbloodsugaralarm.com

They are quite expensive at 69 quid but worth it if they actually work...

hya,
they actually are 35.00 on another site, i was going to buy one as i was having severe hypos in the night before going on novorapid, i borrowed one and it did wake me up but only works if u sweat when hypo ,im always cold so get wrapped up really warm and the heat gave a few false readings too, they are only suitable for night time use and do tend to give quite a few wrong readings, if u want me to find the address of the 35.00 ones pm me and i will find it :D

As totsy says these type of things only really help if you sweat when you have a hypo..

A cheaper alturnative,

In general for most people, there lowest ebb of hormones is around 2am-3am, as hormones can effect blood sugars, this is in general the point where your bg would be at there lowest durning the night.. Set you alarm clock for around this time so that you can take a BG reading, this would give a good intecation if you are going to need to eat something and whether overall you might have to look at increaseing, decreasing even whether spilting your lantus....

When I changed over to basla/bolus many years ago, my diabetic team had worked out my starting dose so that in theroy provent nighttime hypo's and then we worked over a couple of weeks to tweek to the correct amount
