Hi @Diabetic0100 ,

Difficult to say from that info, kinda depends on what you ate, how long before your food did you inject, what were your activity levels afterwards.

Has it happened before?

As urbanracer suggests, a bit more information would be helpful.

On another tack; your details suggest you are T2. If this isn't correct, it would probably also be helpful if you could correct that. Many thanks.

Sorry I should have given more information I usually take my insulin 5 minutes before I eat, it's only ever happened one time before I just wondered if anybody else has experienced the same thing, quite scary to think it dropped that much so quick

What type of carbs did you eat? I ask because for me if I eat vegetable carbs I find they are unpredictable for me and I can either hypo about an hour after eating them or I wind up with high BGL than I thought I would. I chatted to my dietitian about this and she recommended to me that I never eat vegetable carbs on their own as the only source of carb and to mix with a grain carb if I'm going to eat them. I had a terrible time doing the low FODMAP diet which was mostly vegetable carbs as the option to eat other than rice. I find by mixing the type of carbs that this works better for me. Maybe you are experiencing something similar? We all tolerate various carbs differently. It also could be you just have to bolus less for the type of carb you're eating too. Also are you on a basal insulin? Are you on a low dose of that or high dose? There are a lot of variables as the other members above have mentioned.

Thank you for the reply, I was eating chips (bad I know) but I thought a little treat won't hurt. I worked it out to be 80grams of carbs so I had 8units of Nova rapid, I've had this before with the same food and been fine. In starting to think that maybe I didn't catch the hypo in time, I'm on basal bolus 18units, which my nurse said is very little and wants to up the dose. I inject in my stomach which is now very lumpy I thought this may be the reason for the hypo so after this incident I changed to my legs. No problems so far

That's good that you are having no problems injecting in your leg. I inject in my stomach. I'm currently on 13 units of lantus, but usually I'm on 12 units and had to increase my basal up to 15 when I was sick. My problem is I'm sick again though with some virus so sugar going crazy again. Plus my doc just changed one of my med dosages yesterday and it happens to be the baclofen which increases sugar levels as a side effect of the drug. If you get different readings with the exact same food and the same quantity I tend to view that as an unreliable carb for me. I've had chips and I either crash or go too high after eating them. So I get nervous with only a veggie carb option these days. I hope you'll continue to avoid hypos now you've changed your injection site. I wish you the best. :)
