I was just wondering what other people do to get your blood sugar up a bit of you are not feeling well and don't want to eat.

Is it better to try and have a liquid?

I had a hypo of 3.1 on Friday when I wasn't feeling too good and had some coke and then a biscuit once it was above 4. When I went to bed it was still only sitting at 4.8 which I was worried was too low before bed but I really couldn't stomach having a snack.

I just wondered what other folk would do in this situation. It actually worked out ok on this occasion but I was worried about going hypo in the night.

Most folk tend to go higher if unwell due to the liver helping out with some energy to fight off the illness..........

And then there is ketones as well, which require insulin too......

That's also my experience, most recently the flu 2 years ago......

I would just test regularly throughout the day and top up the levels with fluid [if you cant stomach anything]..........so what you did was good......

the question is however, why you dropped............in theory your basal should hold you steady with no food.........have you tested the basal recently?

Thanks for your reply.

I've always found that I go high with cold/flu type illnesses, yet with sickness bugs I tend to be a bit on the lower side.

I went low as I'd had my tea around two hours before and had taken my QA for this, think I took too much.

Drop of coke normally. followed by something a little longer lasting . i prefer liquid for Hypos, party because i feel it works quicker and partly because when your low it can be hard to chew (i have choked a few times on the chalkiness of the dextro glucose tabs)
