I am sure I am not the only one with this experience. I have Type II controlled well with tablets and insulin and seem stable over the last six years at least.

Very occasionally I will wake up about 4AM with a low BSL <3.5. This could occur months apart so it does not worry me.

What proceeds this has me curious and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I am dreaming of food. Not eating it but reaching out. Last night I was dreaming about the need to make a cheesecake. The need to purchase the ingredients and finally seeing a slice. I get up and take my BSL and it was 3.1mmol. It’s not always the same but cheesecake has featured about 3 times. No I rarely eat it.

I can see what the brain is doing by making me dream and waking me. I have talked to a friend who's husband has diabetes and will get some lows in the night be has never dreamt of food. Been looking on the Net but can’t find anything. Anyone on the forum had this experience?

No-one fully understands dreams, it's actually quite amazing just how mysterious the whole phenomenon still is - even today...

Night terrors are a symptom of low nocturnal BG. I've never personally had a nightmare when dipping low over-night; but everybody is different.

The fact you're dreaming of high carb foods could suggest some sort of unconscious bodily response to your low BG. I'd be taking the cheesecake dream over a nightmare every time! Especially a Nutella cheesecake; they are the ticket

Hi @Robert42 ,

We have had many threads discussing this very subject as many of us dreams about food when bg levels are running low, see it as a good thing as there's worse things to dream about than cheesecake

Yes, I've experienced that often too. I am often dreaming about something to do with food when I go too low. I think that is what wakes me up when I do wake up. Sometimes unfortunately I just half wake up and fall back to sleep. But I think it's just our brain warning us something is wrong. Another weird thing that happens with me with dreams is that I often dream about being inside houses and trying to either find a bed to sleep in or the toilet.... usually wanting to sleep. I do have conditions that require me to get to the toilet a lot... so when I dream of toilets I usually wake up in agony and quickly need the toilet But in regard to the inside the house and wanting to sleep.... well a clinical psychologist I saw explained that what we dream about often is telling us something. She said that dreaming about houses is dreaming about your person. Apparently because I dream about ground level homes mostly she said that is indicating I'm restless in my body. If it's upstairs that is the mind she said. When I think of it every single time I have the house dreams I'm extremely tired and unwell. It's just fascinating how our brains work when we're asleep. Sorry I probably got carried away. lol. I dream a lot.

Hi Robert,
I have written blogs about my weird and wonderful dreams. I have them in full blown Technicolor. I dream about many things but not very often anything to do with food!
I only have these dreams nowadays not too frequently. But before I had control, my nights were awful, disruptive sleep, walking around the house wide awake after a bad dream, so realistic!
