Well, my De'Longho Multifry arrived today and as well as easily making my wife scampi & chips in it (23 mins) I also had an experiment with low carbohydrate chips

Or if you're an American (as I know there are a few on the site :)) - french fries

Rather than potatoes (19 grams of carbs per 100 grams uncooked weight) I followed an online posting and made them with swede which is 5.2 grams per 100 gr

Oh My God !!! They actually taste nicer to me than potatoe based chips. Subtle flavour difference slightly akin to mild parsnip but incredibly delicious.

Not an everyday thing, more a treat once or twice a week but scrumptious :)

With the swede being denser than a spud, I cooked them for 25 mins - will experiment in the future with spices in with the oil. Paprika &/or garlic perhaps, not too much, just a hint

Thanks I don't have a fryer but I'd never think to make chips from swede! Will definitely try these in the oven tonight! :-)

We had celeriac chips last night, blanched and then into the oven , yummy :)

I tried celeriac chips and found them far too sweet - even for me and I've got a very sweet tooth. Might have to give the swede ones a go :-)
