Could anyone please explain why you need so much less Basal Insulin when on a Low Carb Diet? My understanding is that the Basal Insulin takes care of the Glucose put into the bloodstream by the Liver - so why would this production reduce whilst low carbing? Just posting this question out of interest as it would appear to me that carb consumption does also impact your basal requirements in additon to your bolus doses, so not all of the basal dose can be attributed to liver production?
By the way I am currently on a total of 12 units of Levermir split twice daily - previously whilst on high carb diet I took 24-26 units total.
