I am late 30s and have been prediabetic for the past 10 years, as far as I know. Around 6 months ago I joined a friend as she began a keto diet. I did not cut carbs enough to be keto, so am more accurately on a low carb diet. Additionally, I quit drinking, cut back drastically on sugary snacks, and no longer drink juice or soda.
However, I realized that my hba1c still remains at the 6.5-6.6 level, and refuses to go down. So I bought a blood glucose test meter (accu-check performa), and after checking during random times during the day, am realizing that 2 hours after eating my blood sugar is always at around 130-140mg, but for some reason, will not go any lower. Mornings, pre-meal checks always show 120-130mg.
I feel much better after starting low carb, no more drowsy afternoons, no trouble waking in the morning, but my fasting blood glucose levels are not improving.
Does anyone have any similar experience? Any tips to reduce further?
