Saw my DN on Monday HbA1c up from 8.1 to 8.5 no weight loss (still at 20st ), peripheral neuropathy stating in both feet. now on 2 x 500mg glucophage - suggestion was I take both with breakfast since I have the dawn phenomena would I be better taking one in the morning and one at night ?

I've cut all major starchy food out of my diet I'm roughly down to about 60gm carb a day maximum although I'm not weighing what I eat to be exact about it. I'm not the most active of people and I think I'm probably eating more than I should - I don't seem to feel full easily.

yesterdays menu was no breakfast, small tuna salad mid morning, chicken salad lunchtime and in the evening I had 4 small porkchops ( 2 were mine and the kids left 2 ) and one spoonful of peanut butter just before bed.

After a brisk walk for 20 to 30 minutes ketostix show the prescence of ketone

Should I always be able to detect ketones or only after exercise ?

Can anyone suggest something that will make me feel full up so I don't eat so much ?
( I don't have much free time unfortunately for anything too involved )

I've recently reduced my metformin from three 500mg/day to two 500mg/day. Metformin's half life is around 6 hours so I take one with breakfast and one before my evening meal - this satisfies me that I'm covered for all three meals and an evening snack - if I'm tempted.

Do you normally eat breakfast? Breakfast as well as one metformin might counter some of the effects of DP.

Someone following a low carb diet will be able to help you with when you should detect ketosis better than I can. As for getting that full feeling, beans help me and they are a good source of protein.

Regards, Tubs.

Edit - Just realised you're on Metformin SR which, I think, is effective over 12 hours - wouldn't it be better then to split the dose one at breakfast and one with dinner to ensure that you've 24 hours coverage?

Thanks Tubs
That's what I was thinking as well might help with the DP , peanut butter at night lowers the DP tried having two eggs scrambled this morning to see if that would help fasting sugar 6.5 3 hours post eggs 7.0 that's better than it has been ( previous readings of 9+ not unusual )
