Low Carb Diet, High Readings

I’ve been type 2 for a few years and been well managed on 500mg metformin 3 times a day.

I had a baby 6 months ago and my blood sugars were always within range and my hba1c came back as 36! I kind of fell off the wagon after giving birth but have started getting back into eating LCHF diet which has always worked well for me. For the past 3 days I have been really strict and also started testing again and my blood sugars are just not going down. The lowest I have got it down to is 9.

How long does it usually take of eating LCHF to see a difference in BS levels after having eaten badly for a while. I am starting to worry that I may have to start insulin which I don’t want to.

Your hormones may be playing a part. Stick with low carb and testing hopefully things will start to come good.

As you have only just begun to take it seriously again you have nothing with which to gauge your present situation - you might well be a long way down from your highest readings. Just keep on testing and avoiding high carb foods and with any luck you'll begin to see lower numbers.
As a type two carbs are never going to be a good option, and like me you might well need to stick to a low carb diet for life if you want to avoid the consequences of being carb intolerant. It does mean that I have the energy to visit my grandchildren which is something I am thankful for.
