Had an eye test on 26th May, as my vision was very blurry and I couldn't read the road signs or the writing on the tv plus I was falling asleep all the time and felt totally exhausted. The optician said both eyes had changed the same amount pointing to high blood glucose. So I went immediately onto Dr M Mosley's low carb diet and made an appointment for an hba1c as I hadn't had one since last August when it was 53 I think. After a week of being on the low carb diet my vision returned to normal.

So booked an appointment with the surgery for 2nd June, the diabetic nurse rang me with the results on 7th June - 112 = 12.4

My diabetic nurse and doctor told me not to test as they wanted to put me on metformin and see me again in 12 weeks for another hba1c. I took one metformin and was so ill I didn't take it anymore. I did tell the doctor and nurse I'd rather go on the low carb diet as it had worked for me before in 2019. They weren't keen but couldn't force me to take the metformin.
I have an appointment with the doctor on 21st of this month about my shortness of breath that I had (thats gone too). I will still keep the appointment because I want to tell the doctor the results of the low carb diet and see her face, as she wasn't keen on the diet and said it wouldn't work as well as metformin.

Today I had a diabetic friend visit me who suggested I test my blood so I got my blood glucose monitor out that I bought 4yrs ago, put a new battery in it and I tested myself. She showed me how to use it, because I'd never used one before. This was 3 hours after lunch.

My blood glucose reading was 5.6. I've also lost half a stone so far. I have an underachieve thyroid so I'm happy with the weight loss but even happier about the blood glucose reading. I was amazed that the low carb diet would have had such an impact so quickly, but as Dr Mosley says in his 8 week Blood Sugar Diet book, it works. It most certainly does. I'm over the moon.

I will now test myself every day to monitor the blood sugar levels but I'm over the moon in such a short time the low carb diet lowered my blood sugar level to within the normal range in 2 weeks and 4 days ago at time of posting this. It'll be interesting to see what the next hba1c is.

So anyone who wants to reduce their blood glucose levels quickly don't doubt the low carb diet because it really does work.

So glad to hear your story as I am running a low carb group and its only Week 2 and my faith is being tested! So well done and thank you for the inspiration.

You're welcome Nicole, I am still in shock that the low carb diet worked so quickly. I did stick to it rigidly and ate hardly any carbs but I was determined I wasn't going to let this disease beat me and I wanted to prove my doctor and the diabetic nurse totally wrong about it. I really think doctors who don't recommend it or haven't heard of it (mine hadn't can you believe that?) should do their research because it can save lives and give people a better quality of life than being pumped full of drugs. It also reduces the blood sugar levels much much faster than metformin as you know, but even that doesn't convince some of them.

Thank you catinahat

It's so heartening to hear your brilliant results - so well done!

Very well done and keep up the excellent work.

I was lucky in that initially my DN told me to watch sugar consumption, and a bit of research led me to understand that should mean all high carbs. GP then told me to try the Atkins diet to lose weight, and both he and my now retired DN have been totally supportive, both with my LCHF, and then when I started testing - husband's diabetic friend used a meter... All this was over 8 years ago so I've been very fortunate.
