I am attempting a low carb diet at the moment and finding it really difficult as my gut is objecting to eggs and any kind of fat!

Does anyone have experience of managing a low carb diet with intollerance of fat and/or bile acid malabsorption?

Oh yes. The missing gallbladder . My body cannot handle too much fat, and sometimes objects to egg. So I keep the fat intake confined to mostly olives, coconut oil, a few walnuts, Greek yogurt, avocado, very small portions of cheese? Though I do have the fat on meat. Avoid cream, butter.

Would fish be a consideration? The oils in fish tend to be omega-3, and fish is very low carb. This is also a source for vitamins B2 and D3. Oily fish like Tuna also has vitamins B12 and K2

Thank you for providing your replies - Pipp - my profile need to be updated and I have now moved to Intermediate Insulin and by cutting back carbs I now have lower numbers on most days that I eat lower carbs. I have experienced really bad bloating and pain this week on my first week of 60g carb. Eggs have been a complete no no as they just sit in my stomach and do not digest. Oldvata - I have brought back fish into my diet this week but it is tasteless - the cod was horrid and the salmon yuk. I am going to find a fishmonger to get some decent fish and try gain with those meals. I have also bought some vegan Omega 3 to supplement my almost vegan diet. I am altering my plan next week to put more protein into the diet but keep the fats low if I can. Not sure if I can do this diet long term and I have not shown any GB numbers which would get me off insulin. But go back to see Hosiptal DN in July.

Just noticed that you list Canagliflozin as one of your meds. Are you still on it? The reason I ask is my own experiemce with this med is that even on low dose (10mg) it made me very flatulent, and severely constipated and gave me a sore bum. I have recently stopped it and my gastric problems have improved noticeably. I no longer frighten the cat.

Ah, yes, fish.
I avoid supermarket fish, and buy fresh, from a deli, that orders in from the catch of the day. Then freeze some to use later. I can’t cope with oily fish like sardines and mackrel, kippersetc, but tinned tuna and salmon are fine for me. I do enjoy fresh salmon, haddock, plaice. If they are bland, some seasoning or flavoured mayonnaise help.

I use Basa fillets myself, and I curry them. I mix curry powder with a teaspoon or so of flour, and coat the damp fish just as a light dusting. Then I grill it with a smear of butter on the pan, turning once. Not sure if marge works instead since I dont use it. Works well with sole and other flatfish too.

Yes I have been on canaglifoxin twice and had thrush on both times. Always have stomach problems but it was the constant thrush which made it unbearable!
