the simple rule is that whatever food is presented to you while visiting friends for example - just have the protein [meat, fish, chicken, egg, cheese] and the light veggies and avoid the starches [bread, crumbs, flour, noodles, rice, potato, chips, peas, corn and beans]
so if you go to take away
fish and chip shop
have fish in batter but then eat just the fish and leave the batter on your plate
sandwich shop
have the filling and leave the bread or roll
BBQ chicken take away
have the meat but leave the skin because they put high carb flavoring on the skin or it is crumbed
burger shop
have the filling in your burger but leave the bun and dont have the crumbed chicken patty
pizza shop
have the cheese and toppings and leave the crust
italian restaurant
spaghetti bolognese and lasagna
have the meat and cheese and leave the noodles and be careful of white sauce as it is full of flour
a friend's bbq
have the steak or burger and salad but dont have the bread roll or chips
chinese restaurant
have the meats and the veggies but leave the rice and noodles and corn
on the run and have no time to stop for food?
how about buying some cheese sticks that don't need refrigeration? or maybe have a boiled egg or two and a whole cucumber or tomato is easy to take in a lunch box too. or you can use cheese slices as your sandwich and putt filling or ham in between the cheese slices. Or perhaps put filling of cheese and ham between some lettuce leaves.
that should give some good idea how to go about any eating situation
same goes when eating with family if you simply don't have the time to make some special low carb recipes
fried eggs on toast
have the eggs or put your fried egg on a slice of ham
cheese on toast
melt your cheese on a slice of ham or a lettuce leaf
in fact the gist is have what everyone else is having but the starches [breads, flour, noodles, potato, beans, peas, corn, rice]
i hope that helps when you are in situations when you do not want to draw attention to the fact that you need to be on a low carb diet but still want to eat with other people
