Hi

Me and my partner are planning on trying for a baby.. but before we do I am currently in the process of getting my diabetes on track as my last hb was high and to be honest I went of the rails with it hehe... Been checking my blood constantly to see where I am but struggling to find low carb foods!!! Any hints or tips!! Im not fussy!!! :):)

Check out the recipe section on the low carb part of the forum, loads of meal ideas. Make Cauliflower your new friend. Makes a good rice substitute or use to make a "pizza" base. Courgette ribbons (use a veg peeler or mandolin) makes a decent pasta replacement with a tomato based sauce

Meat, fish, eggs, bacon, cheese, green veggies, mushrooms, tomatoes, salads, onions, full fat Greek yogurts, berries, cream, loads more!

Hi kirst, I was going to say what other people have already said so won't bother repeating all that, one thing I found useful from another forum if you like cake ( I do! ) then ground almonds will be your new best friend too! There's a 'cake' you can do in the microwave that takes 1 min and with some cream totally satisfies a sweet tooth especially when you want desert after a meal :-)

Ah thank you all so much I will try the breads as I do love a bit of toast in the morning :):):) Granary bread is way too high my sugars shoot straight up!

Hi Jade,

I dont carb count its more 'guess work' something that me and my mum have been doing since I was 8 when I first diagnosed :)

Daphne teaches you all about carb counting it's great and means once you know what carbs are in certain foods you can pretty much eat what you want by adjusting the amount of insulin you take! x

With my T2 I started counting carbs but once I had an idea of what a slice of bread or serving of rice did I backed off being too formal about it. My fasting test in the morning gives me a fair handle on how I'm going and testing a couple of hours after any big or unusual meals alerts me to issues. The other thing that has helped enormously is daily exercise. I walk a couple of kilometrs every day and it can really pull the highs down. Over time it has changed my metabolism. I've recently stopped walking for 2 months with a foot injury and only in the last week has my glucose started to creep upwards. Before I started the walking regularly I could easily see the effect of a missed walk after only a day. So coasting for 2 months tells me my metabolism has really improved from walking and I need to get back into it now as my foot injury is healing (oops, bad pun!)..

To be fair the answer is in name Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating - it teaches you to mimic what everybody bodies does naturally! been doing it since was diagnosed and never been hospitalised and my hbac1 has never been higher than 8! xxx

I know 8 isn't great but was trying to make the point that some people's Hbac1 can go a lot higher and with the help of carb counting and daphne mine never have! Normally Hbac1 is 7-7.5 x
